Buying a Used BMW 1 Series Malaysia — Checklist
F20 checklist: N20 cold-start chain rattle (walk away if yes), expansion tank condition, ATF colour. F40 checklist: DCT adaptation via ISTA, B38 vibration check, water pump hours. Both: valve cover oil saturation, ISTA full scan. 1 Series cheapest used BMW to maintain if chain is healthy.
F20 1 Series Checklist
- No cold-start chain rattle test needed — no N20 in 1 Series
- B48 (120i): water pump health via ISTA
- M135i/M140i: DCT clutch bite point check — test in car park
- Airbag system: any fault codes? (minor accidents are common)
- CBS counters — all items current?
F20 M135i Specific Checks
- DCT fluid colour and smell — brown/burnt = overdue
- Clutch judder at low speed in traffic — sign of wear
- Tyre condition — rear should be wider than front
- Track use history: check for signs (worn pads/discs, roll cage holes)
- ISTA scan for DSC and engine fault codes
