1 Series — Lower Cost Than 3 Series
The 1 Series is BMW's most affordable to maintain in Malaysia — parts are generally 10–20% cheaper than equivalent 3 Series components, and the smaller engine capacity means less oil per service. The B38 3-cylinder in the 116i has a unique vibration characteristic at idle — owners sometimes mistake this for a fault and ask for diagnosis. It is normal 3-cylinder character and not something to repair.
