F20 with ZF 8-speed: BMW ATF 4 / Esso LT 71141, 7.5L, every 60,000 km. F40 with 7-speed DCT (Getrag): DCT-specific fluid, 3.5L, every 40,000 km. DCT shudder at low speed often fixed by fluid change + adaptation reset via ISTA. Malaysia cost: ZF RM 350–600; DCT RM 300–500.

DCT 7-Speed — Stop-Go Warning
The F20 M135i/M140i DCT 7-speed is a dual-clutch transmission that is not ideal for Malaysia's city traffic. The wet multi-plate clutch pack heats up rapidly in traffic — sustained stop-go causes clutch judder and, over time, accelerates clutch wear. Owners who mainly drive in KL city should drain and refill the DCT fluid every 30,000 km (not 40,000 km) and avoid using D in heavy traffic — use S mode which shifts more decisively and reduces clutch slipping time.
