B38 Mount — 3-Cylinder Vibration Consideration
The B38 3-cylinder fires at 120-degree intervals (vs 90-degree for a 4-cylinder) — this creates an inherent primary imbalance that the engine mounts must absorb. When the mounts degrade, the already-present 3-cylinder vibration becomes significantly worse. An owner reporting 'the vibration is getting worse' on a B38 116i is almost always describing failed engine mounts rather than an engine problem. Check mounts first before doing anything more invasive.
