Replace every 2 years. Prius brake-by-wire is extremely sensitive to degraded fluid — this is the most safety-critical service item.
Change brake fluid every 2 years — Toyota DOT 3. On a Prius, the hydraulic brake system is used rarely, so moisture accumulation in the fluid happens slower than a conventional car, but the 2-year interval still applies.
