The 1VD-FTV uses a twin-turbo setup (sequential turbos) — complex and expensive if either turbo fails. Turbo longevity depends entirely on regular oil changes and correct shutdown procedure.
Turbo Care
- Always idle for 2–3 minutes before switching off after highway driving — lets turbo oil cool
- Turbo oil seal leak: blue smoke from exhaust — repair cost RM 800–2,000 per turbo
- Full twin-turbo replacement: RM 5,000–10,000 — use OEM or reputable remanufactured units only
