Toyota Harrier Timing Chain Guide Malaysia
M20A-FKS uses a timing chain — no scheduled replacement. Timely oil changes are the key to chain longevity.

Both Harrier engines — M20A-FKS (2.0L petrol) and A25A-FXS (2.5L hybrid) — use timing chains. There is no timing belt to replace. Toyota's TNGA-generation chains are robust and designed to last the engine's lifetime with correct oil intervals.
Timing Chain Maintenance
- No replacement interval — chain is designed to last with regular oil changes every 5,000–10,000 km
- Early warning: rattling noise on cold start (first 5 seconds) — indicates chain tensioner wear or low oil pressure
- Using A40-spec or correct 0W-16 full synthetic oil is critical — thin oil film on cold start is the chain's biggest risk
- Chain tensioner inspection: RM 300–500 labour if noise persists; tensioner replacement RM 400–800
