Harrier 2.5L Hybrid XU80 uses a lithium-ion (Li-ion) hybrid battery — Toyota's newest generation, lighter and more compact than the older NiMH packs used in Prius and Sienta. The Li-ion pack is located under the rear seat and ventilated by a dedicated fan. Expected lifespan: 10 years / 200,000 km with correct care in Malaysian conditions.
Li-ion Hybrid Battery Maintenance
- Keep battery ventilation fan inlet (below rear seat) clear of dirt and blocked air paths — vacuum clean every 20,000 km
- Avoid prolonged parking in direct sunlight — Li-ion is more heat-sensitive than NiMH; use a sunshade
- Never let the 12V auxiliary battery fully discharge — Harrier hybrid will not ready without 12V power
- Battery health check via Techstream: RM 150–200 — do at 80,000 km and every 40,000 km thereafter
- Li-ion replacement (if needed): RM 15,000–25,000 — rare before 150,000 km with correct care
