The hybrid inverter has its own separate coolant circuit. Neglecting it causes inverter overheating — a repair that exceeds RM 5,000.
The inverter coolant circuit is unique to hybrid and electric vehicles — and it's the most commonly neglected maintenance item on the Corolla Cross Hybrid in Malaysia.
Why It Matters
The power inverter converts DC battery power to AC for the electric motor — generating significant heat. If the coolant degrades, inverter temperatures rise, efficiency drops, and eventually the inverter fails. Inverter replacement: RM 5,000–9,000. The coolant change costs RM 150–250.
How to Identify the Inverter Reservoir
There are two coolant reservoirs under the Corolla Cross Hybrid bonnet — the main engine coolant (larger, marked with a thermometer icon) and the inverter coolant (smaller, marked with a lightning bolt or EV icon). They use different-coloured caps in later production; check your owner's manual to confirm.
