Corolla Cross uses iridium spark plugs that last 80,000 km — but worn plugs hurt efficiency in an Atkinson-cycle hybrid engine more than in a conventional engine.
OEM Plug Spec
NGK ILZKR7B-11S or Denso SK20PR-A11 iridium plugs — 4 plugs total. Never use copper plugs on the 2ZR-FXE: they wear too fast and the large electrode gap hurts hybrid combustion.
Signs of Worn Plugs
- Increased fuel consumption (1–2 km/L drop on hybrid)
- Rough idle or vibration at standstill
- Engine misfires (P0300 codes)
Replacement Cost
Full set of 4 iridium plugs + labour: RM 180–280 at our workshop. OEM Toyota plugs are RM 35–50 each. 80,000 km is the maximum — consider changing at 60,000 km for optimal hybrid efficiency.
