Newer Avanza (2022+) uses Electric Power Steering (EPS). The older model uses hydraulic power steering (HPS). Both have different failure modes.
Old Avanza — Hydraulic Steering Fluid Leak
HPS uses power steering fluid (PSF). Moaning noise on full lock is the first symptom of low fluid. Steering rack seal failure causes fluid to leak — repair cost RM 400–800.
New Avanza — EPS Motor Failure
EPS faults show as 'Power Steering' warning light on instrument cluster. EPS motor replacement: RM 800–1,500. Software calibration required after replacement.
