Subaru Levorg Generations Guide Malaysia
The Subaru Levorg has two generations: the first-generation VM (2014–2020), which used FA20 or FB16T engines and was not officially sold in Malaysia, and the current second-generation VN (2020–present) with the CB18 1.8T boxer turbo. The VN generation is the first Levorg officially available through Subaru Malaysia, making it a fresh and relatively new model in the local market. Owners and buyers should note that the older VM generation parts and expertise may be less available through official channels in Malaysia.

- VM (2014–2020): 1st gen Levorg; FA20DIT 2.0L or FA16DIT 1.6L turbo; only wagon with EyeSight in its class at launch; CVT; direct injection turbo — carbon buildup at 60,000–80,000 km is a known maintenance need
- VM variants in Malaysia: 1.6 GT-S and 2.0 GT-S; 2.0 GT-S has FA20DIT (more carbon risk); 1.6 GT-S FA16DIT has lower carbon risk but less power; both have Lineartronic CVT; service history check critical for used VM
- VN (2021+): 2nd gen Levorg; CB18 1.8L turbo replaces FA20DIT; direct injection but revised to reduce carbon; SGP platform — stiffer and safer; EyeSight X improved; not yet common in Malaysia used market
- Levorg used buying: VM — mandatory SSM4 scan for carbon buildup codes and CVT health; check CVT fluid colour and service interval; walnut blasting history adds value; avoid VM with unknown service history above 80,000 km
