Forester FB25 Timing Chain
The FB25 boxer engine uses a timing chain on each side of the engine (two chains — one per bank). Both chains are rated for the engine's life. With 0W-20 full synthetic at 10,000 km intervals, chain issues are rare. The horizontally-opposed (boxer) layout means oil drains away from chain components quickly after shutdown — ensuring prompt cold start oiling is important.
