Subaru Forester Common Problems Malaysia

FB25 CVT & Head Gasket Awareness

The 5th-gen Subaru Forester (2019+) FB25 2.5L naturally aspirated engine with Lineartronic CVT has improved on the old head gasket failure of earlier EJ engines. However, the Lineartronic CVT requires its own specific ATF (Subaru Genuine CVT Fluid or equivalent) — do not substitute with generic CVT fluid. Change every 40,000 km in Malaysian conditions.

CVT Vibration at Low Speed

Subaru Lineartronic CVTs can develop a slight vibration or judder at low speeds (20–40 km/h) in city traffic, often from fluid degradation. This is the most common Forester complaint in Malaysia after 50,000 km. A CVT fluid change often resolves the issue immediately if caught before the belt wears.
