Subaru BRZ Spark Plug Replacement Malaysia
The Subaru BRZ FA20 and FA24 engines each use 4 iridium spark plugs, with a replacement interval of 60,000 km. NGK ILZKBR8B8G or equivalent iridium plugs are recommended for the FA20. Worn spark plugs on a naturally aspirated boxer engine cause noticeable loss of throttle response, rough idling, and reduced fuel efficiency. The horizontally opposed engine layout makes plug access slightly more involved than inline engines — always use a torque wrench to avoid overtightening into the aluminium cylinder head.

Subaru BRZ Spark Plugs
- BRZ FA20 or FA24 spark plugs: iridium; 100,000 km for NA engine; no turbo boost stress — plugs last their full rated life under normal road use
- BRZ high-RPM plug: FA20 and FA24 rev to 7500–8000 RPM; high RPM means plugs fire more times per minute — iridium handles this; copper plugs would wear much faster
- BRZ track plug inspection: after track days, inspect plugs for pre-ignition signs or abnormal electrode wear; Malaysia heat stresses plugs on track; if plugs show white deposits or erosion, replace at 60,000 km
- BRZ plug access: FA20 horizontal boxer — plugs accessible from top with extensions; ZD8 FA24 has slightly different layout; refer to service manual for plug depth and socket size before starting
