Subaru BRZ Carbon Buildup Service Malaysia
The Subaru BRZ FA20 and FA24 engines use D-4S dual injection — combining direct injection with port injection — which significantly reduces intake valve carbon buildup compared to pure direct injection engines. This means the BRZ has less carbon concern than many modern turbocharged GDI engines. Under normal use, carbon walnut blasting is typically not required until beyond 100,000 km if any. Occasional full-throttle runs help clear light deposits from the port injection wash. Regular quality fuel and engine oil remain the best prevention.

Subaru BRZ Carbon Buildup
- BRZ FA20/FA24 port injection: FA20 (ZN6) and FA24 (ZD8) use port injection — intake valves stay clean; carbon buildup on intake valves is not a BRZ issue; BRZ does not need walnut blasting
- BRZ high-RPM oil vapour: BRZ revs high (7500–8000 RPM); at high RPM, PCV vapour volume increases; some BRZ owners notice minor intake deposits after extended track use — not DI carbon but PCV oil mist
- BRZ throttle cleaning: clean throttle body at 60,000 km; high-RPM NA engine keeps throttle cleaner than low-RPM turbo; mild cleaning sufficient
- BRZ oil catch can: some track BRZ owners fit oil catch cans on PCV line to reduce oil mist entering intake — reduces intake deposits and maintains clean port injection valves
