Nissan Grand Livina Common Problems Malaysia — HR16DE / CVT
The Grand Livina's most common issue is CVT fluid neglect — skipping the 40,000 km NS-3 change leads to shudder and eventual CVT failure on L11 variants. On older L10 units with 4-speed AT, transmission hesitation and slipping appear after 120,000 km of neglected service. Hydraulic power steering pump whine is widespread on high-mileage examples, and front suspension bushings wear faster than expected on Malaysia's roads. HR16DE timing chain rattle on cold start signals oil change neglect and a worn tensioner.

MR20DE CVT Wear — Grand Livina
The Livina uses the MR20DE with a Jatco CVT. At higher mileage (80,000 km+), the CVT can develop shudder under light throttle or at low speeds — a sign of worn steel belt or degraded fluid. Regular fluid changes at 40,000 km intervals are the best prevention. If shudder occurs, a CVT additive flush may provide temporary relief but full fluid replacement is the proper fix.
