Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Throttle Body & EGR Cleaning Malaysia
Pajero Sport 4N15 diesel: the throttle body controls EGR air mixing — diesel engines do not require throttle body cleaning as frequently as petrol engines for fuel delivery reasons. However, EGR carbon buildup on the throttle body, intake manifold, and EGR valve is a real concern at 100,000+ km. Symptoms: rough idle, hesitation on light throttle, black smoke. EGR valve cleaning or replacement addresses this. Throttle body cleaning alone is insufficient if the EGR is heavily carboned. Consider EGR system service as part of the 100,000 km major service.

The throttle body controls how much air enters the engine. Over time — typically 40,000–80,000 km — a sticky carbon deposit builds up inside the throttle bore and on the butterfly valve. In Malaysia, this causes rough idle at traffic lights, stalling when cold, and sluggish response when you first press the accelerator.
Signs your throttle body needs cleaning
- Rough or hunting idle — engine speed fluctuates between 600–1,000 rpm instead of holding steady
- Stalling on cold start or when coming to a stop
- Poor throttle response — delay between pressing the pedal and acceleration
- High idle after battery disconnection — ECU loses its adaptive idle setting
How throttle cleaning works — and what it costs
The throttle body is removed (or cleaned in-situ on some models), sprayed with throttle body cleaner to dissolve carbon, then wiped clean. On electronic throttle bodies (drive-by-wire), the ECU idle calibration must be reset afterwards.
Cost at 4M Car Care: RM 80–180 including idle relearn procedure. Recommended every 40,000–60,000 km as preventive maintenance, or when symptoms appear.
