Pajero Sport QE/QF top concerns: DPF clogging from predominantly city driving (common on auto QE), diesel injector fouling from poor-quality fuel or neglected fuel filter, VGT turbo actuator wear at high mileage, and Super Select 4WD transfer case oil neglect. The 4N15 engine is shared with the Triton and is fundamentally reliable — most problems stem from deferred maintenance. QF facelift models added minor refinements but share all the same mechanical concerns.
4N16 Diesel DPF & Turbo Carbon
The Pajero Sport 4N16 2.4L diesel shares DPF issues with the Triton — city driving causes premature clogging. Additionally, the twin-scroll turbocharger can accumulate carbon deposits on the variable geometry vanes, leading to turbo lag or stuck vanes at high mileage. Annual turbo inspection from 80,000 km onwards is recommended for vehicles used primarily in city traffic.
