Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Fuel Pump Malaysia — Diesel High-Pressure
Pajero Sport 4N15 has two pumps: a low-pressure in-tank transfer pump and a high-pressure Bosch common-rail injection pump driven by the camshaft. The high-pressure pump is a precision component — contaminated or water-laden fuel destroys it. Fuel filter replacement every 15,000 km is the primary protection. Signs of pump wear: hard start, loss of power under load, excessive black smoke. Always drain the fuel filter water separator at every service to remove accumulated water.

The fuel pump is responsible for delivering petrol from the tank to the engine at the correct pressure. When it weakens or fails, your car may struggle to start, stall on the highway, or feel sluggish under acceleration — problems that get worse in Malaysia's stop-start traffic.
Warning signs of a failing fuel pump
- Hard starting — engine cranks but takes unusually long to fire up
- Engine sputtering or misfiring at highway speeds above 90 km/h
- Sudden stall that restarts after a few minutes (pump overheating)
- Loss of power under load — hill climbs or heavy acceleration feel weak
- Whining noise from the rear of the car (pump struggling)
Diagnosis & replacement cost in Malaysia
A workshop will use a fuel pressure gauge to test whether the pump is delivering adequate pressure (typically 3–4 bar for most engines). If pressure drops under load, pump replacement is required.
Replacement cost at 4M Car Care: RM 400–900 for most Japanese and European models, parts included. Genuine or OEM parts are recommended — budget aftermarket pumps often fail prematurely in Malaysia's heat.
Prevention tips
- Keep your tank above ¼ full — running low overheats the pump (it uses fuel to cool itself)
- Replace the fuel filter at manufacturer intervals — a clogged filter strains the pump
