Mercedes-Benz E-Class Used Car Checklist Malaysia — W212/W213
Buying a used E-Class in Malaysia? Check W212 for rust under doors, AIRMATIC faults and M274 oil leaks. W213: verify ATF history, check for accident damage. Full pre-purchase checklist inside.

Buying a used E-Class in Malaysia — if done correctly — is one of the best used car purchases you can make. If done poorly, it becomes an expensive lesson. The price gap between a well-maintained and a neglected E-Class can easily translate to RM 20,000–40,000 in repair costs.
W212 checks
- M272 V6 (E300/E350): cold-start knock test — 30 seconds from first crank. No knock = good. Deep knock = balance shaft issue, budget RM 4,000–7,000.
- AIRMATIC models: overnight sit test — check all four corners in the morning. Any corner lower than overnight start = leaking air spring.
- Check FSS service history: oil spec and ATF change history are most important.
W213 checks
- Full XENTRY diagnostic scan before purchase — check for AIRMATIC, SRS, 9G-Tronic adaptation fault codes.
- 9G-Tronic test drive in slow city traffic — jerky from stop (fixable) vs slipping (serious).
- Check all ADAS systems: blind spot display, lane assist camera, 360° camera (if fitted), parking sensors.
