W212 M274 engines use MB 229.5 (5W-30); W213 M274/M254 engines require MB 229.51 (5W-30) or 229.6 (0W-20). Using correct spec is critical — wrong oil leads to timing chain and turbo wear.

Oil quality is directly linked to balance shaft sprocket longevity on the M272. The sprocket relies on a constant film of correctly-spec'd oil.
