Mercedes-Benz E-Class Generations Guide — W212 vs W213 Malaysia

W212 (2013–2016): comfortable, known for rust on older units, available with AIRMATIC. W213 (2016+): modern interior, 9G-Tronic, better tech. Which E-Class generation makes sense to buy in Malaysia?

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Generations Guide — W212 vs W213 Malaysia

W212 (2009–2016)

The W212 offers genuine executive saloon presence with excellent rear passenger space and optional V6 power. The main risk is the M272 balance shaft sprocket — inspect carefully or stick to 4-cylinder variants. AIRMATIC models need air spring inspection. A W212 4-cylinder with full service history and recent ATF change is an excellent buy.

W213 (2016–2023)

The W213 is a significant step up in interior quality, safety tech and infotainment. The 9G-Tronic is excellent with proper ATF maintenance. No M272 V6 balance shaft risk. The 2020 facelift brings MBUX — a much more modern and intuitive infotainment system. Main risks: 9G-Tronic ATF neglect and AIRMATIC air spring condition.
