Malaysia's monsoon seasons bring torrential rain — and worn wiper blades in heavy rain are a serious safety risk. If your wipers leave streaks, skip areas, or squeak across the windscreen, they are due for replacement.
How often to replace wipers in Malaysia
In Malaysia, wiper blades should be replaced every 6–12 months — significantly more often than the 12–24 months recommended in temperate climates. UV radiation, heat, and frequent rain cause the rubber to harden and crack faster here.
Types of wiper blades
- Traditional frame wipers — metal frame with rubber insert. Lowest cost (RM 15–40 each), good in moderate rain, but frames can clog with road dirt.
- Flat (beam) wipers — no metal frame, self-adjusting pressure. Better contact in heavy rain. Cost RM 40–120 each. Recommended for Malaysian weather.
- Hybrid wipers — metal frame with aerodynamic shell protecting the rubber. Good all-round performance in Malaysian conditions.
