Battery replacement on the A-Class W177 is not a simple swap. All modern Mercedes models require IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor) coding after every battery replacement — the ECU must learn the new battery's capacity to manage charging correctly.

- Type: AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) — NEVER standard flooded or EFB
- Capacity: 70Ah for A180/A200; 80Ah for A250

IBS Coding — Why It Matters
Installing a new battery without IBS coding causes the alternator to overcharge (shortening the new battery's life) or undercharge (draining overnight). It can also trigger false fault codes for the Start-Stop system and EPS. Always insist on IBS coding — any workshop with a proper Mercedes diagnostic tool can perform this in 5 minutes.
