Toyota Vios vs Honda City — Which is Better for Malaysia? (2024)
Toyota Vios and Honda City are Malaysia's two most popular entry sedans. We compare reliability, maintenance cost, fuel economy, resale value and driving feel — to help you decide.

Toyota Vios and Honda City are Malaysia's two most popular entry sedans. Having serviced both extensively at our Bandar Sri Damansara workshop, here's our mechanic's honest assessment.
Reliability & Transmission
Both are very reliable. The Vios Super CVT-i has a stronger long-term reliability record than Honda's CVT at equivalent mileage — particularly when fluid changes are maintained. The City's DOHC i-VTEC is slightly more complex but still very reliable. For long-term, worry-free ownership, the Vios has a marginal edge.
Running Costs & Fuel Economy
Running costs are similar. Vios parts are generally slightly cheaper and more widely available. Real-world fuel economy is nearly identical for both models — 10–13 km/L in city traffic, 14–16 km/L highway.
Verdict
Choose Vios for long-term reliability and lower maintenance risk. Choose City for a more engaging drive and more tech per ringgit. Both are excellent — you can't go wrong with either if you keep up with servicing.
