Toyota Vios Cabin Filter — How Often to Change & Why It Matters
The cabin air filter is the most overlooked maintenance item on a Toyota Vios. A dirty filter reduces airflow, causes musty smells and worsens cooling. Change every 15,000 km. Easy and cheap.

The cabin filter filters the air passing through your Vios vents. It's cheap, easy to replace and the most overlooked service item. A clogged filter reduces airflow, causes musty smells and strains the blower motor.
Location & How to Replace
The cabin filter is behind the glove box on all Vios generations. Open the glove box, unclip the restraint strap, pull the box down and slide out the filter housing. No tools needed. Change every 15,000 km — or every 12 months in dusty areas or during haze season.
Filter Types
- Standard: RM 20–40 — filters dust and pollen
- Activated carbon: RM 40–80 — adds odour removal, ideal for Malaysian urban driving
- HEPA-grade: RM 60–120 — best during haze season, filters PM2.5
