C-HR hybrid 12V auxiliary battery failure prevents the hybrid system from starting — even if the HV battery is fine. Replacement guide.
C-HR Hybrid has two batteries: the 12V auxiliary battery (conventional lead-acid) and the HV NiMH traction battery. The 12V battery needs replacement every 3–4 years — it powers the car's electronics and initialises the hybrid system.
Battery Details
- 12V auxiliary battery replacement: RM 200–350 installed — use Toyota-spec or Varta Silver
- A flat 12V battery prevents the HV system from starting — even a good HV battery won't help if the 12V is dead
