Subaru WRX Throttle Body Cleaning Malaysia
Carbon deposits in the WRX throttle body cause rough idle, hesitation on initial acceleration, and inconsistent airflow readings by the MAF sensor. The FA20DIT direct injection system does not wash the throttle body with fuel vapour as often as port-injected engines, accelerating deposit buildup. Clean the throttle body every 40,000–60,000 km using dedicated throttle cleaner; on drive-by-wire systems, avoid spraying directly onto the throttle blade motor. After cleaning, the ECU idle relearn procedure must be performed to restore smooth idle operation.

Subaru WRX Throttle Body Cleaning
- WRX FA20DIT throttle and carbon: FA20DIT direct injection means NO fuel washing throttle or intake valves; throttle body and intake valves both accumulate carbon; throttle cleaning at 60,000 km; intake valve walnut blast at 60,000–80,000 km for carbon removal from valves
- WRX throttle and boost: FA20DIT throttle body sees boost pressure on turbocharged side; throttle cleaning on WRX should be done with engine cold and turbo depressurized; carbon in throttle on boosted engine affects airflow more critically than NA car
- WRX throttle relearn: FA20DIT throttle body relearn after cleaning; use SSM4 for throttle position initialization; or manual method — key on, wait, start idle; if idle is unstable — SSM4 throttle initialization at workshop resolves
