Subaru WRX STI Throttle Body Cleaning Malaysia
The WRX STI EJ257's throttle body and TGV (Tumble Generator Valves) accumulate carbon deposits over time, leading to rough idle, reduced throttle response, and occasionally idle hunt. A professional throttle body and TGV clean every 50,000–80,000 km is recommended. The EJ257's TGVs are notorious for this issue — a thorough clean or TGV delete (common modification) restores smooth operation.

- STI EJ257 throttle: port injection on EJ257 means fuel washes intake valves — less valve carbon than FA20DIT; but throttle body still accumulates PCV deposits; clean at 60,000 km; STI throttle body larger diameter than WRX for higher airflow
- STI idle quality: EJ257 at idle should be smooth and stable; rough or surging idle on STI — check throttle body first, then IAC (idle air control) and MAF; STI rough idle can also come from worn cam seals (phase fault) — diagnose via SSM4 VVT data
