Subaru WRX STI Puspakom Guide Malaysia
A stock, unmodified WRX STI passes Puspakom B2 inspection without issue if mechanically sound. However, many STIs in Malaysia have modifications — aftermarket exhausts, lowered suspension, or engine modifications. Non-standard exhaust systems may fail noise or emissions checks; lowered suspension must meet minimum ride height requirements. Ensure all lights function correctly and tyres are within size tolerances. A pre-Puspakom inspection at your workshop helps identify issues before the official test.

Subaru WRX STI Puspakom Inspection Guide
- STI Puspakom challenges: STI is often modified; stock STI passes Puspakom without issue; modified STI with roll cage, bucket seats without passenger seat, catless exhaust, or wide-body kit will face scrutiny; return to road-legal spec before inspection
- STI roll cage and Puspakom: roll cage in a road car can fail Puspakom safety check if it obstructs seat belt path or blocks entry/exit; ensure cage meets JPJ guidelines or remove for inspection; half cage positioned correctly is generally acceptable
- STI noise at Puspakom: aftermarket exhaust on STI — Puspakom performs a drive-by noise test at some centres; stock or quiet aftermarket cat-back generally passes; loud straight-pipe or de-cat exhaust may fail noise test; fit quieter exhaust before inspection
