Subaru WRX STI Power Steering Service Malaysia
The WRX STI VA generation uses an electric power steering (EPS) system — there is no hydraulic power steering fluid to check. EPS issues typically manifest as steering feel changes or warning lights. Ensure the EPS motor and rack are inspected if unusual steering behaviour is noticed. The STI's direct steering feel is a key handling characteristic — any change in feel should be investigated promptly.

Subaru WRX STI Power Steering
- STI hydraulic power steering: VA STI (2014–2021) uses hydraulic rack-and-pinion power steering — one of the last new cars to use hydraulic steering; this is intentional for feedback and precision on track
- STI power steering fluid: check fluid level at every oil change; use Subaru-specified PSF (Power Steering Fluid) or equivalent; change fluid every 80,000 km or if discoloured; dirty fluid causes pump wear and steering noise
- STI steering rack: hydraulic rack with short throw for precision; rack can develop internal leak at high mileage (120,000+ km); symptoms are power steering fluid loss with no external drip — fluid bypasses internal seals; replace rack if confirmed
- STI steering pump: hydraulic pump driven by accessory belt; if belt squeal on cold start with heavy steering — pump cavitation from old fluid; change fluid and inspect pump at 100,000 km; pump replacement if bearing noise on cold start
