Perodua Ativa Throttle Body Cleaning Malaysia
Perodua Ativa · 2021–present
The throttle body controls how much air enters the engine. Over time — typically 40,000–80,000 km — a sticky carbon deposit builds up inside the throttle bore and on the butterfly valve. In Malaysia, this causes rough idle at traffic lights, stalling when cold, and sluggish response when you first press the accelerator.
Signs your throttle body needs cleaning
- •Rough or hunting idle — engine speed fluctuates between 600–1,000 rpm instead of holding steady
- •Stalling on cold start or when coming to a stop
- •Poor throttle response — delay between pressing the pedal and acceleration
- •High idle after battery disconnection — ECU loses its adaptive idle setting
How throttle cleaning works — and what it costs
The throttle body is removed (or cleaned in-situ on some models), sprayed with throttle body cleaner to dissolve carbon, then wiped clean. On electronic throttle bodies (drive-by-wire), the ECU idle calibration must be reset afterwards.
Cost at 4M Car Care: RM 80–180 including idle relearn procedure. Recommended every 40,000–60,000 km as preventive maintenance, or when symptoms appear.
