Nissan X-Trail Timing Chain Malaysia — MR20DE / KR15DDTX
Both MR20DE (T32) and KR15DDTX (T33) use a timing chain — no belt to replace. MR20DE chain is generally robust; cold-start rattle at 120,000+ km from worn tensioner is the main concern. KR15DDTX turbo chain: oil quality is critical — use only 0W-20 full synthetic and change at 10,000 km max. Chain kit replacement is a significant job on the X-Trail. Prevention: never miss oil changes.

X-Trail Timing Chain Info
Both the MR20DE (T32) and KR15DDTX (T33) use timing chains. The MR20DE chain is robust and rarely causes issues with regular oil changes. The KR15DDTX chain is more sensitive to oil quality — stick to 0W-20 full synthetic at 10,000 km intervals. Cold start rattles that clear within 2–3 seconds are normal oil pressurisation; rattles lasting longer need inspection.
