Nissan Serena Common Problems Malaysia — C27
C27 MR20DD: CVT shudder from NS-3 neglect is the most costly failure. S-Hybrid auxiliary lithium battery loses capacity after 5–7 years causing idle-stop to stop functioning. MR20DD direct injection builds intake valve carbon by 60,000–80,000 km. Power sliding door motor failures reported at 80,000+ km. Coolant expansion tank cap seal is a minor seep point at 60,000 km.

Serena C27 S-Hybrid CVT Issues
The Serena C27 MR20DD S-Hybrid uses a Xtronic CVT with a mild hybrid assist. The CVT is generally reliable but in Malaysia's heavy MPV use (full passenger loads, Karak Highway climbs), fluid degradation is faster than indicated by service schedules. Change CVT fluid every 40,000 km. The S-Hybrid battery (lithium-ion) is usually trouble-free but can trigger warning lights if deeply discharged repeatedly.
Serena Sliding Door Mechanism Wear
Power sliding doors on the Serena C27 can develop rattles, slow operation, or failure to latch fully — often after 60,000–80,000 km of use. The door rollers and track require lubrication every 20,000 km. If the door hesitates mid-travel, have the motor and roller assembly inspected before the motor burns out.
