Mitsubishi Galant Fortis Timing Chain Malaysia
The 4B11 engine uses a timing chain rather than a belt, which is more durable but not maintenance-free. On high-mileage units — especially those where oil changes were not performed on schedule — the VVT actuator and chain tensioner can show wear, leading to a rattling noise on cold starts. Inspect the timing chain system at 100,000 km service. Persistent cold-start rattle should be diagnosed promptly, as a stretched chain or worn tensioner can ultimately cause timing deviation and engine damage.

Galant Fortis 4B11 Timing Chain
The 4B11 uses a timing chain with MIVEC variable cam timing. The VVT actuator oil passages are small — sludge from infrequent or wrong oil changes blocks these passages, causing timing rattle and fault codes. Full synthetic 5W-30 at 10,000 km is non-negotiable for MIVEC engines. If timing codes appear (P0010/P0011), solenoid cleaning or replacement is usually the first step.
