The Mitsubishi ASX 4B10 2.0L MIVEC engine uses a timing chain — not a timing belt — so there is no fixed replacement interval like belt-driven engines. The chain is designed to last the engine's lifetime with proper oil maintenance. The most critical protection for the timing chain is using clean, high-quality 5W-30/5W-40 fully synthetic oil changed every 10,000 km. Warning signs of chain wear include a rattling noise on cold start, timing-related fault codes, and rough running. Stretched chains require workshop attention.

Both 4B10 and 4A91 use timing chains. With regular 5W-30 oil changes at 10,000 km, chains are reliable. Brief cold-start rattle (under 4 seconds) is a normal oil pressurisation artefact. Sustained rattle after warmup needs inspection.
