Buying a used GLA? The X156 is now 5–12 years old in Malaysia. The H247 is 2020+ and more recent. Both need the same core checks, with X156 requiring more attention to age-related electrical and transmission items.
Transmission
- 7DCT (post-2016 X156 / all H247): test for judder on pullaway
- 7G-Tronic (early X156): test for gear hunting or jerky shifts
- Ask for transmission fluid service history — no record = assume overdue
Engine & Drivetrain
- Carbon cleaning history if >60,000 km — budget RM 800–1,200 if none
- 4MATIC transfer case fluid history at 80,000+ km
- Cold start timing chain rattle check (first 5 seconds)
Electronics
