Toyota Alphard AGH30 — CVT Fluid, Water Pump & Full Preventive Service (Sri Damansara)
This Alphard AGH30 came in before any symptoms appeared — smart preventive maintenance. We replaced CVT fluid, water pump, balance shaft, coolant, oil seals, topped up the aircond refrigerant, and completed wheel balancing plus 4-wheel alignment. Preventing expensive repairs before they happen.

A Toyota Alphard AGH30 came to 4M CarCare in Sri Damansara for a full preventive maintenance service. The AGH30 Alphard is powered by the 2AR-FE 2.5-litre four-cylinder paired with Toyota's Hybrid System (THS) on hybrid variants, or the 2GR-FE 3.5-litre V6 on petrol variants. Both powertrains share the same commitment to scheduled maintenance — an Alphard that is properly maintained will run reliably for hundreds of thousands of kilometres.
Services performed
CVT fluid replacement — the AGH30 Alphard's continuously variable transmission uses Toyota WS (World Standard) ATF. CVT fluid degrades with heat; degraded fluid loses its friction coefficient properties, causing shuddering under low-speed load and a gradual increase in belt wear. Toyota recommends CVT fluid inspection at every major service and replacement based on condition.
Water pump replacement — the water pump on the 2AR-FE has a known wear interval. A failing water pump typically leaks from the weep hole (a small vent behind the pump pulley), indicating bearing seal failure. Replacing the pump proactively before it fails completely avoids the overheating risk and tow-in that a catastrophic pump failure causes.
Balance shaft replacement — the 2AR-FE uses a balance shaft assembly to counteract the inherent vibration of an inline-four engine. A worn balance shaft or its bearings can introduce vibration at idle and under light load, and in severe cases can cause oil contamination.
Coolant replacement — long-life coolant degrades over time regardless of colour. The silicate and OAT inhibitor packages that prevent corrosion of aluminium engine components deplete with mileage and age. Replacing coolant at the correct interval prevents internal corrosion of the water jacket, aluminium cylinder head and radiator.
Oil seals — multiple oil seals inspected and replaced where signs of seeping were found. Alphard oil seals, particularly the crankshaft front and rear seals, should be inspected at major services.
Aircond refrigerant top-up — refrigerant pressure checked and topped up to the correct specification. A slight undercharge results in the system working harder and the compressor running hotter; maintaining correct refrigerant level maximises cooling efficiency.
Wheel balancing and four-wheel alignment — checked and corrected. Correct alignment on a large MPV is important for even tyre wear; an Alphard's wide tyres are not cheap to replace, so maximising their life through correct alignment is worthwhile.
Why proactive maintenance on the Alphard makes financial sense
The Toyota Alphard AGH30 retails at a premium price. A water pump that fails on the road results in an overheated engine that may require a head gasket repair or worse. A CVT that fails from neglected fluid service can cost as much as a complete unit replacement. These are expensive outcomes that proactive maintenance prevents for a fraction of the cost.
Our service approach: inspect first, advise clearly, replace only what is needed. We do not add items to a service list to inflate the bill.
