Lexus RX350 AWD Oil Service — Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40, Near Bandar Menjalara

A Lexus RX350 AWD from Bandar Menjalara came to 4M CarCare for a scheduled engine oil service. The RX350 runs Toyota's 3.5-litre 2GR-FKS direct-injection V6 — a refined and durable engine that, like all V6 engines, holds a larger oil volume and benefits significantly from quality full synthetic oil at the correct change interval.

Engine oil drain — the old oil (dark brown, past its optimal life) was fully drained, confirming it had been in service for a significant period. Oil filter replacement — the cartridge filter was replaced. The 2GR-FKS V6 has an oil cooler circuit that passes through the filter housing; a clean filter maintains proper oil flow to this circuit and to the variable valve timing (VVT) actuators that rely on oil pressure to function.

Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 full synthetic refill — 5W-40 is the correct specification for the RX350 in Malaysia's climate. 5W-40 provides a robust film at high temperatures (which is typical in stop-start KL traffic and long motorway runs) while the 5W cold viscosity ensures fast circulation on startup.

Complete vehicle inspection — all fluid levels checked and topped up: coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, windscreen washer. Tyre pressure and tread depth checked. Brake pads visually assessed for remaining thickness. Battery condition tested.

The 2GR-FKS in the fourth-generation RX350 uses Toyota's D-4ST dual-injection system — combining port injection and direct injection. This is a significant improvement over pure direct injection because the port injection sprays fuel onto the back of the intake valves, washing away carbon deposits that accumulate on direct-injection-only engines.

Even with D-4ST, carbon can accumulate in the intake ports over high mileage. If you notice rough idle, hesitation on acceleration or slightly reduced fuel economy past 100,000 KM, an intake cleaning service is worth scheduling.

The AWD system on the RX350 adds a rear differential and an active torque control unit — both of which contain gear oil that should be checked and replaced at intervals. Rear differential fluid degrades with heat and use; neglected AWD fluid results in the rear diff running dry, which produces noise and accelerated wear.
