Pre-Purchase ISTA Scan — Essential for X3
Before purchasing any used X3, an ISTA scan is more important than on a 3 Series — you need to check not just the engine and gearbox but also the xDrive transfer case clutch health, the front and rear differential temperatures, and any xDrive fault history. A generic OBD reader cannot access these BMW-proprietary modules. At RM 120–200, an ISTA scan is the best insurance money you can spend on a used X3 purchase.
