B38 and B48 are direct injection — carbon buildup at 60,000–80,000 km. Walnut blast: B38 3-cyl RM 450–750 (only 3 ports — faster and cheaper). B48 4-cyl RM 500–900. KL stop-go traffic and idle-heavy use accelerate buildup. Small engine bay = faster walnut blast access.

Walnut Blasting in Malaysia — When and Why
Direct-injection engines like the B38 1.5T 3-cyl or B48 2.0T in the X2 cannot clean intake valves with fuel the way port-injected engines do. Carbon accumulates on the back of intake valves — typically 3–5mm thick by 80,000 km of KL city driving. Symptoms: rough idle, hesitation at low RPM, reduced fuel economy.
