BMW BMW 2 Series O2 Sensor Malaysia
The oxygen sensor (O2 sensor or lambda sensor) monitors the oxygen content of exhaust gases and sends this data to the ECU, which adjusts the fuel-air mixture in real time. A failing O2 sensor is one of the most common causes of increased fuel consumption in Malaysia — sometimes 15–20% more fuel used without the driver noticing.
Symptoms of a failing O2 sensor
- Noticeably higher fuel consumption — same route, same driving but using more petrol
- Rough idle or hunting — ECU receiving bad data and over/under-fuelling
- Check engine light — typically P0130–P0167 codes (upstream/downstream sensor faults)
- Failed emissions test — rich or lean mixture causes high CO or HC readings
- Exhaust smelling rich (fuel odour) or sharp (lean condition)
Replacement cost and what to expect
