Smart alternator with IBS — same as 3 Series architecture. IBS reset via ISTA after replacement. M240i N55: twin-turbo boost solenoids add electrical demand. Malaysia cost RM 900–1,800. 2 Series Alternator

Smart Charging System Explained
The 2 Series uses a smart alternator that only charges during deceleration (regenerative charging), not during steady cruising. This saves fuel but means the battery must be in good health to store energy effectively. A weak battery causes the alternator to overwork — leading to premature alternator failure. Always address battery health before replacing an alternator, and always register the battery after replacement.
