Steering wheel shakes when driving — what's wrong?
Shaking at speed vs when braking points to different problems. Here's how to tell what's behind the vibration.

A shaking steering wheel is common but shouldn't be ignored — different situations point to different problems.
Shaking at high speed
Usually a wheel-balancing issue, or a deformed tyre/rim or uneven wear. Balancing usually fixes it.
Shaking when braking
Commonly a warped or unevenly worn brake disc — check the discs and pads.
Shaking at idle / moving off
Could be worn engine mounts, ignition or fuel-injection issues — needs further diagnosis.
