Mazda 2 DJ (2015–Present) Polymann Bushing Upgrade — Keeping the SKYACTIV Hatchback Sharp and Precise

The Mazda 2 DJ — launched in 2015 and still in production — is not a typical B-segment hatchback. Where most cars in this class compete on fuel economy and entry price, the Mazda 2 DJ is engineered around Jinba Ittai — the Japanese concept of horse and rider moving as one. It is lighter, more responsive, and more tactile than almost anything else at its price point. That character comes from a well-sorted chassis and a front suspension that communicates road feel directly to the driver. At high mileage, worn front lower arm and stabilizer bar bushings quietly dull that communication — and the Mazda 2 starts to feel less special than it should.

PPPB 35945 — Front Lower Arm Bushing Kit: The Mazda 2 DJ uses a MacPherson strut front suspension, with the front lower control arm located to the subframe through bushings at both pivot ends. The kit includes multiple polyurethane bushing units and metal sleeves, providing a complete replacement of all lower arm bushing positions. These bushings handle every braking, cornering and road-impact force that the front suspension sees. When they wear, the first symptoms are a slight deadening of steering feel — the direct, responsive turn-in that characterises the Mazda 2 becomes slightly vague — followed by a faint knock over sharper road edges. PPPB 35945 restores the lower arm's precise location, giving the front suspension back its ability to communicate road feel accurately.

PPPB 36143 — Front Stabilizer Bar Bushing Kit (19mm): The Mazda 2 DJ's front anti-roll bar is a 19mm unit — a relatively firm specification for a B-segment hatchback, reflecting Mazda's intention to keep the car flat and composed in corners. The two rubber clamp bushings that hold the bar to the subframe are the weak point: when they crack and harden, the bar knocks in its mounts every time the suspension loads and unloads. The knock is most audible at slow speeds over speed bumps. PPPB 36143 replaces both clamp bushings with polyurethane sized exactly for the 19mm bar — eliminating the rattle and maintaining the sway bar's effectiveness.

On a comfort-focused sedan, worn bushings mainly produce noise and slightly imprecise steering — inconvenient, but the car's character is not built around sharpness. On the Mazda 2 DJ, the story is different. The car is designed to be communicative and direct. Every degree of deflection in a worn lower arm bushing is felt as vagueness at the steering wheel — because the Mazda 2's steering is tuned to be sensitive enough to notice it. Polyurethane bushings, holding their shape more precisely under load than rubber, restore the communication channel between road and driver that Mazda engineers designed.

After replacing the front lower arm bushings, a wheel alignment check is required. New bushings allow the lower arm to settle to its correct geometry, shifting the camber and toe values from the worn position. A full four-wheel alignment ensures the Mazda 2 DJ steers true and wears its tyres evenly — completing the restoration of front suspension precision.
