Isuzu D-Max RG (2020–2026) Polymann Bushing Upgrade — Front Upper Arm, Front Lower Arm & Rear Spring Pad

The Isuzu D-Max RG — produced from 2020 onwards — is one of Malaysia's most popular pickup trucks. It is built to carry loads, tow trailers, handle plantation roads, and still serve as a daily family vehicle. This dual life puts far more stress on suspension bushings than a typical passenger car ever experiences. The result: D-Max RG bushings wear out faster, and the symptoms show up clearly — a front end that wanders, a rear that bounces and rattles, and suspension noise that gets worse over rough ground.

The D-Max RG uses a double wishbone front suspension — an upper arm and a lower arm on each side. Both arms have rubber bushings at their pivot points, and both wear out over time. Doing only one arm's bushings while the other set is worn does not fully restore the front suspension's precision.

PPPB 36283 — Front Upper Arm Bushing Kit: The upper arm on the D-Max RG controls camber and links the top of the front wheel hub to the chassis. On a pickup truck, the upper arm bushings take on significant lateral forces when the truck is loaded or during off-road use. Worn upper arm bushings cause camber drift, uneven front tyre wear, and a steering wheel that does not feel settled.

PPPB 35884 — Front Lower Arm Bushing Kit: The lower arm is the primary structural link of the front suspension — it carries most of the braking, acceleration, and cornering loads. On the D-Max RG, the lower arm also has to cope with the additional forces from carrying heavy loads in the tray. These bushings take the hardest beating and are often the first to show wear symptoms: a dull knock from the front when going over bumps, vague steering, or the truck pulling slightly to one side.

Unlike most passenger cars which use coil springs or multi-link at the rear, the Isuzu D-Max RG uses a leaf spring rear suspension — the same type used on commercial trucks. Leaf springs are designed to carry loads, and between each leaf and at the spring mounting points there are rubber pads and bushings that cushion the metal-to-metal contact.

PPPB 35885 — Rear Spring Pad Bushing Kit: These are the polyurethane pads that sit between the leaf spring leaves and at the spring mount points. When the original rubber pads wear out and compress permanently, you get metal-to-metal contact — which produces a harsh, clunking ride quality over bumps and uneven ground, especially noticeable when the tray is empty. The Polymann polyurethane pads restore the correct cushioning, reduce harshness, and hold up far better under repeated load cycles than rubber.

High-mileage D-Max owners — if you are past 60,000 km and notice any front knocking, rear harshness, or wandering steering, your bushings are almost certainly the cause.

D-Max owners who regularly carry loads — repeated loading and unloading compresses the leaf spring pads faster. If your truck is used for work, the rear spring pad bushings wear out earlier than in a light-duty daily driver.

Off-road users — off-road driving sends large, sudden impacts through the suspension. Rubber bushings absorb these poorly once they have hardened, while Polymann polyurethane pads handle off-road impacts much better and recover their shape afterwards.

Any time the front upper or lower arm bushings are replaced, a four-wheel alignment must follow. The D-Max RG's double wishbone front suspension is geometry-sensitive — the new bushings reset the arm's compliance characteristics and the wheel alignment must be re-checked and adjusted to factory specification.
