Mercedes Service A vs Service B: What's Included and What Does It Cost?
Mercedes uses a Service A / Service B alternating schedule via the ASSYST+ system. Service B is more comprehensive and costs significantly more. Here's what each includes — and whether you must use a dealership.
Mercedes servicing: ASSYST+
Mercedes-Benz uses the ASSYST+ (Adaptive Service System) intelligent service system, which calculates the optimal service interval based on actual driving data (mileage, time, temperature, etc.) rather than a fixed mileage schedule. The dashboard shows a 'Service A' or 'Service B' prompt several weeks in advance.
Typically Service A appears at the first service (around 10,000–15,000 KM or 1 year), then A and B alternate roughly every 20,000 KM or 2 years.
What Service A includes
Service A (basic): • Engine oil and filter change (using Mercedes-spec fully synthetic oil, e.g., MB 229.5 or 229.51) • Check all fluid levels (brake fluid, coolant, windscreen washer, power steering fluid) • Brake system inspection • Tyre pressure and condition check • ASSYST+ service indicator reset • Full vehicle health check report
What Service B includes
Service B (more comprehensive — includes everything in Service A, plus): • Air filter replacement • Cabin air filter (pollen filter) replacement • Brake fluid replacement (Mercedes recommends every 2 years regardless of mileage) • Spark plug replacement on some models (depending on model and mileage) • Full inspection checklist Service B takes longer and costs significantly more than Service A.
Does servicing outside a dealership affect warranty?
No. Malaysia's Block Exemption Order protects consumer rights — as long as Mercedes-spec lubricants and parts are used and complete service records are kept, servicing at an independent workshop does not void the manufacturer warranty.
