CVT transmission care: how often to change the fluid
Many Myvi, Bezza, City and HR-V models use a CVT. Does it need fluid changes? How often? What to avoid? Here's how to make your CVT last.

Many popular cars — Perodua Myvi and Bezza, Honda City and HR-V, and more — use a CVT (continuously variable transmission). CVTs are smooth and fuel-efficient, but they're also sensitive to heat and old fluid. Look after it and it lasts; neglect it and repairs are expensive. Here's how to care for a CVT.
Does a CVT need fluid changes? How often?
Yes — despite "sealed for life" claims, CVT fluid degrades with heat and time. In Malaysia's climate and traffic, changing it around every 40,000 km (check your manual) keeps the transmission smooth and prevents costly failures. Always use the exact CVT fluid your car specifies — the wrong fluid can ruin a CVT.
Driving habits that protect a CVT
Come to a full stop before shifting between D and R.
Warm the car up gently for the first minute instead of flooring it cold.
Avoid aggressive launches and don't "rev and dump" from a standstill.
Watch out for overheating on long climbs or heavy loads — heat is a CVT's biggest enemy.
