In Malaysia, aircond is almost essential for driving. Many owners assume "not cold = need gas," but there are several causes, and blindly adding gas may not help. Here are the 5 most common reasons.

Refrigerant slowly drops over time or leaks through ageing lines/joints. Just adding gas is a band-aid; leaks must be repaired first.

The compressor is the heart of the aircond. A worn compressor or faulty clutch can't push out cold air, often with noise.

The condenser sits at the front and catches dust, insects and leaves; poor dissipation means weak cooling. A non-spinning fan causes the same.

A cooling coil and cabin filter caked with dust and mould reduce airflow, cause musty air and weaker cooling.

Faulty temperature sensors, relays or wiring can also stop the aircond working properly. These need instruments to pinpoint.

Clean the cooling coil and change the cabin filter roughly every 1–2 years, and have the gas level checked when cooling weakens. Regular care keeps airflow strong, prevents musty smells, and protects the compressor — which is the most expensive part to replace.
